The Truth About Martial Arts And Self Defense Part Two

In the first part of this article I explained why martial arts training is not true self defense training. However my objective is not to degrade martial arts at all. I have studied three major martial arts to advanced levels and I am a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame so I certainly know the true value of martial arts study.

I am only pointing out that traditional martial arts will seldom prepare most people to handle a true self defense situation effectively. But I do not deny that some people do develop tremendous fighting ability from their study of martial systems.

But a self defense program must teach more than the physicality of punching, customize bobblehead, kicking etc. True self defense training must teach a person how to avoid the fight in the first place.

I also pointed outthat the real key to developing this avoidance ability is developing a knowledge and awareness of the mind and thinking of the human predators out there. Remember, these are precisely the ones most likely to assault you.

The predators concept of props was presented,Best Sport Fishing Regions And Charters In The Vicinity Of Fort Lauderdale. This behavioral pattern is conditioned into people who have done hard time in prison. They come out with a mental conditioning that creates a hypersensitivity and need for violence at being disrespected or dissed in any way. This is such a critical topic in self defense that I am going to expand on it here again

The person who is a predator themselves knows the ways and thinking of the predator. He knows how he selects his own victims. Thus, he is very much aware and alert for anyone who may be grooming him to be their victim. Hence, in order to not to be chosen as a victim the convict knows not to behave like a suitable victim.

So understand why if someone disrespects him he cannot afford to just let it go. He has to physically or mentally defeat that person right away. Because if he does not then he fears that person (and any other predator seeing this disrespect not being redressed) will begin to see him as a safe victim, custom bobblehead. This is therefore a matter of survival to a convict in prison

One convicted killer told me and after awhile that is all just bred into you, personalized bobblehead. This is why many a convict has killed another prisoner over the failure to repay a single cigarette.

Here is the key point, a normal person most often does not grasp the reality of this type of predatory thinking and so they can do something innocently that then gets them attacked simply through their ignorance.

Even in a casual exchange of words on the street, in a bar or at the supermarket, a normal person can innocently say something that triggers the homicidal drive conditioned into the mind of the criminal predator. If that predator feels he is being disrespected he must act.

Let me give a personal example of this behavior. I was in a western clothing store in my state of Colorado. A Hispanic man and woman were talking in Spanish and because I am not Hispanic in appearance I think they assumed I did not speak the language. As it happens though I do speak Spanish semi OK so I moved away from them out of courtesy.

The Hispanic man picked up a pair of boots with no price tag on them and so he asked the teen ager whose head was below the counter: How much are these boots?

The teen age kid not knowing any better just raised his hand above the counter and waved it saying Hold on I will be with you in a minute. The Hispanic man saw this as disrespectful.

I saw what seemed like a bolt of electricity go through the Hispanic mans body, personalized bobble heads. At that instant I figured that man had been in prison and I knew what was likely to happen next. He began to move toward the kid with a face that truly reflected the veracity of my speculation too.

Not wanting him to attack the kid I stepped between him and the boy with my open palms held towards him and I said very plaintively in Spanish Please Sir. he did not mean to disrespect you, it is only that he is a young kid and he does not know any better.

It was surprising how the Hispanic man reacted. It was like I could see a physical wave of relief flow through him. It was apparent to me that he was actually glad to be now let off the hook in regard to his responsibility to beat the kid up.

The kid was not entirely oblivious to this situation by now either. His survival instincts and fight or flight reactions were now engaged.

Let me say that the only thing you can absolutely count on happening in any heated physical or verbal exchange is the release of the adrenaline complex into the body of both potential combatants. Classical martial art training totally ignores this critical reality in its training methodology though.

For example, personalized bobbleheads, I have been asked to be a judge at karate tournaments and several times I have observed instructors becoming totally bewildered as they see their prize student flailing spastically and ineffectually out there on the tournament mat.

Its seems to the instructor that the person he personally trained and who was so fast and clean in his sparring at his own school was now somehow suddenly transformed into a totally untrained and rather uncoordinated person. But really the student had simply been overcome by adrenal stress, custom bobblehead.

Now consider this. How much more incapacitated would that karate student be if instead of being in that tournament ring he was on the street and the attack was for real, custom bobbleheads?

In fact, suppose he accidentally through ignorance dissed the wrong person. In most cases that wrong person will immediately give him an aggressive and perhaps colorful verbal attack (woof).. This alone will often be enough to make the karate student freeze up as the woof often does to so many people too.

Indeed,Choose A Chest Workout, that is why the predator will most often make some verbal assault before he goes physical. They want to see that they have a safe victim and they want to freeze up the potential defense of their victim.

In my books I call this verbal attack or woof of the predator the Interview. This is because it really is an interview of the potential victim for their suitability and safety to attack,Classifieds February 5, 2015,customized bobbleheads. The interview is both victim attack preparation and an intelligence gathering mission for the predator.

An absolute key element of any true self defense program must be adrenal stress conditioning,Get The Strong Rage Broadheads. But classic martial art training lacks this element entirely.

Now you may ask how can the adrenal rush be elicited in training to provide what I refer to as true self defense training?

I can truly speak with both experience and authority there, personalized bobble heads. Because for over two decades now in my RMCAT self defense classes I have found it to be quite easy to adrenalize almost anyone and very quickly too and even with only verbal abuse and woofing alone.

This is done through scenario based training,.. My RMCAT instructor will behaves just like a real human predator and so the student discovers the real problem in self defense. And that problem has nothing to do with martial arts technique skill as they had previously thought.

They feel their body shake a bit, their hearts are beating harder and faster. Sometimes they realize they are no longer hearing what the woofer is saying, they only see his lips moving. This is called auditory exclusion and it is an adrenal stress affect.

But like any drug one can get used to adrenaline and regain control of their minds and bodies. But few can do that in their first adrenal stress driven scenario!

Soon the student is acting appropriately to the scenario situation because they are becoming able to make conscious decisions about how they should respond. This was not possible in their first few scenarios because the adrenal rush overcame them.

Fear and anger are almost the same thing. Can you have anger without some fear? Can you have fear without some anger?

Neither fear or anger are choices we make, personalized bobblehead, they are autonomic reflex actions to the stimulus we are presented with. That stimulus may be a guy screaming at us or even charging at us with a weapon.

By conditioning the student to handle the adrenal rush we are developing their ability to make tactical choices under stress. These choices serve their self defense needs and are not just automatic, reflex fear or anger based behaviors.

But what is the right choice to make in the face of aggression?

The correct choice is to be congruently assertive. This is a real choice, fear or anger are not choices. I first discovered this reality as a bouncer/cooler in my early twenties in a very tough, large and rowdy fight prone bar in New Mexico.

When I was new on the job I did not know what I was doing at all. As a result I got into fights, that is I was physically attacked two or three times a weekend! Fortunately I was lucky enough not to be seriously hurt in these assaults. But it surely wasnt my martial arts training which saved me as I found out that at first, somehow I could not use it!

I had to think of a better way and I began to think, I must be doing something wrong. I must be helping cause the fights in some way. I was dead right about that too. Later I saw that I was doing virtually everything possible wrong and it was all out of my fear and anger.

The solution was to relax and control myself and then be assertive, but never threatening or challenging. When they told me that they would beat my face into raspberry jam my response was no longer fear or anger based as I made a choice to be calm. So I would reply calmly to them Sir, that is not what is going to happen here.

It worked almost every time too! The guy did not attack me because my behavior did not spell good safe victim to him. My behavior said something to him that made him think:

This guy is not rattled, he is not in denial of my intent or the danger here either. His body carriage and movements subtly maintain the same facing with me even as I try to distract him with my best woof and wild hand gestures as I try to move to that perfect sucker punch position on him. What is wrong with this picture?

The truth is the predator is hardly ever really looking for a fight, customize bobblehead; he just wants to find a victim. If he thinks he cant intimidate the person verbally then he is much less likely to physically attack them (especially if he is by himself).

There were some times when they would attack me though but then I found it much easier to defeat their attack than before. Being calm I could see it coming before it was really uncorked most times. It was clear to me that all that had changed here was my attitude and perception, which was made possible by the adrenal stress control I had developed.

It was way back then that I first began to think how adrenal stress, scenario based training could be so very effective for self defense! My paradigm of what self defense training was had changed completely!

In later years the program I envisioned back then was refined and now in a single weekend we increase a persons self defense ability in the real world very significantly.

In the next installment we will see what that long ago idea ultimately became and it was something I didnt originally envision, it was something much greater.
